A 1918 photograph, entitled ‘Staff, General Military Hospital, Colchester, July 1918’ is the subject of this site.  The research project, based primarily on the personnel, was undertaken ahead of a World War One Centenary exhibition by the ‘Lexden History Group’ in September 2014.   Additionally, there will be some other material included that relates to the hospital in general.

Linked to this is a site relating to other WW1 Home Hospitals within a 20 mile radius of Colchester, Essex, England: https://greatwarhomehospitals.wordpress.com/   There is a chapter on the General Military Hospital in Colchester  within that site, and some work here is duplicated in that chapter.

Grateful thanks and acknowledgements go to the following – without their assistance, identification of nursing professions and military ranks within the photograph would be non-existent:

Sue Light – http://www.scarletfinders.co.uk/index.html;  and members of the Great War Forum http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php (significantly, Robert Bennett)
